Chimpanzee facility at Copenhagen Zoo

Foundation: 90 pcs. BAYO.S ground screws
Depth: 2 – 3,5 meters
Construction class: KK1
BAYO.S has delivered and installed 90 ground screws for the new chimpanzee facility at Copenhagen Zoo. The screws are installed at depths of 2 to 3.5 meters in a soil consisting of sand and moraine clay.

When establishing the facility, special attention was paid to taking into account the existing trees and their root system. In particular, a nearby oak tree, which is estimated to be around 150 years old, required special consideration. Thanks to the flexibility of the ground screws, it has been possible to place the screws with great precision so that the tree’s roots were not damaged.

The flexibility has also proven useful in relation to the many cables and stones found in the ground around the area. With BAYO.S ground screws, it has been possible to adjust the location continuously – without the need for extensive excavation or heavy foundation work.

The result is a gentle and stable foundation solution that takes into account both nature and the technical challenges in a sensitive and densely built-up area like the Copenhagen Zoo.
